The Ghana Navy has rescued three
Italians who were critically ill aboard an Italian vessel sailing from
the Congo waters to Las Palmas.
Favara Giovanni, Noce Rosario,
and Ballistreri Matteo were taken ill aboard the Levoli Green, and
needed urgent medical attention since they could not have survived the
journey.
Naval Ship (GNS) CHEMLE, P. 36, which was under the
command of Lieutenant Micheal Cudjoe, was on last Saturday at about
21:30 hours, tasked to perform a rescue mission following signals
received by the Navy.
It had on board five officers and 19 ratings during its rescue mission.
Speaking
to the media on Sunday, Garrison Public Relations Officer, Captain
Asola Fadola, said one of the three persons rescued was in a very
critical condition while the two others had fairly good stable
conditions.
He said the three persons have been sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for urgent intensive medical care.
According
to him, the vessel owners considered Ghana's proximity, and added that
the craft was about 150 nautical miles from the coast of Ghana.
He said the Ghanaian team encountered bad weather conditions but persevered to rescue the sick.
The rescue mission was also assisted by Dr. David Katsepkor from the Health Link Clinic. |
