THEFT IN THE HEART OF ACCRA BROAD DAY LIGHT

Accra is becoming more dangerous everyday when it comes to theft cases. This week alone have heard at least 8 theft cases inside Accra excluding those on the news. Two were direct experience and the rest from other source. Kwame Nkrumah Circle is the worst place of all. Every day numerous theft cases are recorded there, and everyday you see some members of the Ghana Police Force around those areas, yet still the crime cases are increasing in an increasing order. I thought the presence of the Ghana Police Force in such areas will scare away criminals but alas! These criminals still operates right under the nose of the Ghana Police Service.
On the 18th coming back from work,I decided to pass through the Nkrumah Circle at exactly 4:30pm to 5:00pm. There was a heavy traffic at that time. I saw a man holding a bag and an apple tablet being chased by some other men, right through the traffic, they were shouting at him "THIEF THIEF THIEF" and it was as if that was the order of the day, because pedestrians and drivers did not really mind what was happening. The men who were chasing the allege thief were also part of the game., meaning they were together with the allege thief, the aggrieved person or the victim from whom they stole from was really crying and calling for help but it was as if nobody he was in an isolated island.
So i asked a trader close to where i was standing that why did this happen right in a public place and nothing is happening to stop the thief and suprisingly she said " Hmmm they are the problem we face here in circle and they have become part of the people we interact with or see here in circle, so we are learning how to live with them with fear, for their main targets are visitors who do not really know the area" and yet still i see police patrolling there any time i pass there.
What is Ghana Police Service doing about this ? Or have they also learn to relate to live with criminals to extends that theft crimes are done right under their nose. "Probably  Nkrumah Circle is too wild for them to keep things under control or from theft free".
Or should we assume that Nkrumah Circle is associated with theft cases, so that any time we are passing through that area we leave our valuable items at home. Because every decent living Ghanaians does not pass through circle without thorough care of being picked pocket. The Ghana Police Force, Accra Metropolitan Assemble,The government, all stake holders involve should take the necessary measures to eradicate high rate of theft cases in Kwame Nkrumah Circle before things get out of hands.
